In Qing dynasty China, there were clear rules on what to wear on different occasions. Official dress was worn when the emperor performed sacrifices at the 'Temple of Heaven' and at other important rituals. Auspicious dress was for New Year, birthdays and weddings. Military dress for troop inspection; travelling dress for hunting and royal visits to provinces, and ordinary dress for events of a non- celebrative nature, such as mourning. When not performing public duties, however, the imperial family could freely choose which garments to wear - and this book also illustrates these more casual clothes with colourful and stunning fashion dresses made for the court ladies. 650 0 Emperors|xClothing|zChina|vExhibitions. 650 0 Empresses|xClothing|zChina|vExhibitions. 650 0 Emperors|xClothing|zChina|vPictorial works. 650 0 Empresses|xClothing|zChina|vPictorial works. 650 0 Costume|zChina|xHistory|yMing-Qing dynasties, 1368-1912 |vExhibitions. 651 0 China|xKings and rulers|xClothing|vExhibitions. 651 0 China|xKings and rulers|xClothing|vPictorial works. 700 1 Wilson, Ming. 710 2 Gu gong bo wu yuan (China) 710 2 Victoria and Albert Museum. 949 1 |lsag|t30|s-|z092|a746|bW55|i1400024865 994 C0|bTWU
